Final NEET UG seat allotments roll out as NTA plans computer-based exam for 2027

Final NEET UG seat allotments roll out as NTA plans computer-based exam for 2027

Counselling for NEET UG 2026 is in its last stage. Several states released stray round allotments today, and the National Testing Agency (NTA) is preparing to move the exam online next year.

At the national level, the Medical Counselling Committee released the stray vacancy round result on October 19. Candidates allotted seats must report to their colleges by October 26

State bodies followed with their own lists today. West Bengal announced its stray vacancy round result, with reporting from October 23 to 26. In Maharashtra, the Stray Round 2 list is out, and allotted candidates must join by 5:30 PM on October 24. Assam released a provisional select list, with reporting on October 25 and 26. Tripura issued a revised schedule, and allotted candidates collect their nominations between October 27 and 29. All of these lists are provisional.

On the 2027 exam, the Centre announced on May 15 that NEET UG will become a computer-based test. NTA has not announced an exam date, and none appeared in its calendar released on September 16. It has asked AICTE to identify government colleges with computer labs that could serve as exam centres. The agency has not published the exam pattern. Press reports of a five to six day, multi-shift schedule remain unconfirmed.

The decision to go digital followed this year’s paper leak. NTA cancelled the May 3 exam after at least 120 questions in a guess paper matched the actual paper. The re-exam was held on June 21, and results on July 16 showed 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying. The CBI’s first charge sheet, filed on July 28, named 13 accused, including NTA-appointed subject experts, coaching centre operators and middlemen. Officials familiar with the case say the final charge sheet is unlikely to name any NTA or government official. The final charge sheet had not been confirmed as filed at the time of writing. On August 17, the Education Ministry removed 50 NTA personnel as part of an overhaul.
